Summary: The show is based on the journey of Kurt Weill, a brilliant composer, who was forced to flee Weimar Germany but went on to forge a successful career in the USA with the love of his life. His life story is told through narration, dialogue and projections but primarily through his songs such as Mack the Knife and September Song.
The script, specially written by Rachel Parker, is based on real events and is both humorous and, at times, poignant, highlighting the major events in Kurt Weill’s journey from Germany to finding fame and fortune in the USA with his (twice) wife Lotte Lenya. We also meet characters such as Bertolt Brecht, George and Ira Gerschwin among other luminaries of the golden age of American music.
The format for the show is cabaret-style performances of his songs with the audience sitting around tables. Dinner (optional) will be served during the interval.
